We’ve had tons of these at work. I’ve never thought of them as all that big, because we also have lots of Precision 7-series towers as well. That being said, they’re not exactly the most space efficient things. What amazes me is that you only get 2 internal 3.5" hard drive bays. It’s causing some drama right now, because we have a guy that wants more internal storage but is balking at just getting a new PC right now. So next week I need to see if his actually has UEFI so we can move him over to 6TB disks.

On the plus side, they have a giant heat sink with that duct right over the CPU, so they are pretty quiet, even under full load. We had several water-cooled Auroras with i7-920's that we bought around the same time and they sound like jet engines when worked hard.

I’m using a T5810 now with a 6-core Xeon now. It is a little bit smaller, but mainly because Dell decided we need even less space for storage/media and went to just 1.5 5.25" bays. It is amazingly silent even running at 100% for hours on end. A lot of that probably has to do with how efficient the new Intel chips are, but part of it is just trading big case for efficient airflow.

Nice purchase, and as long as you don’t need more power, you’ll get years of use out of it. These things just don’t die.

I'm pretty sure this won't work with hard drives but I ghetto mod my ssd I just tape it to the case no moving parts means no worries about mounting.

Nice. I usually buy one of the little adapter brackets that fits 2.5" drives into the 3.5" bays - the last one I used lets you stack 2 SSD’s on top of each other in one bay and was less than $5. But tape works just as well probably - now you can spend the $5 on a beer.
